Osteopathy & Us
We are highly trained healthcare professionals with an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology in health and disease. We diagnose and treat the body as a whole, rather than only focusing on the problem area.
At the Fern Osteopathic Practice we're interested in the whole body and how it functions – from the way the muscles & bones are working, to tension in the membranous matrices of the body, to how the internal organs are positioned and their freedom of movement. We are interested in the whole person – looking at the entire body for the source of local symptoms, whilst considering the possibility of emotional and social, as well as physical, causes to problems. In addition to manual treatment, we also offer advice on nutrition, posture and exercises/stretches to aid recovery, promote health and prevent recurrence of symptoms. We also offer annual check-ups and "maintenance" treatments. |

Strictly speaking, Osteopathy is Osteopathy! However, since not all Osteopaths work in the same way, the following descriptions may help you to understand the way in which we, at Fern Osteopaths, work.
Strictly speaking, Osteopathy is Osteopathy! However, since not all Osteopaths work in the same way, the following descriptions may help you to understand the way in which we, at Fern Osteopaths, work.
- Structural / Classical Osteopathy : articulation combined with soft tissue work, stretching & manipulation of the external structures of the body.
- Visceral Osteopathy : working gently with the internal organs (via the surface of the body).
- Cranial Osteopathy : using refined palpatory skill, we interface with the body’s inherent rhythmic motions, and use this to treat the whole body, including the skull and its contents.
- Biodynamic Osteopathy : Both Ranza and Andrea have completed many years of training in the Biodynamic Approach to Osteopathy in the Cranial Field. This approach utilises vital forces inherent within the living body to help patients operate from a place of improved Health, regardless of their condition. It not only treats the physical body, but many patients have reported other benefits : assists their personal evolution and development of consciousness; enables their capacity to relax and trust the flow of life, instead of being governed by fear, control & resistance).
Meet the Practitioners :
Ranza Barr
OSTEOPATH D.O., BSc (Hons) Ost. "Since graduating from the European School of Osteopathy in 2008, I have loved every minute of being an Osteopath. As a family practitioner, I treat patients of all ages, from newborn to elders, with a wide range of conditions. I am a very caring person and have a particular interest in working with patients with complex needs, including trauma and long-term health issues. I have a special interest in Cranial Osteopathy and am involved in the tutoring of other Osteopaths on the BioBasics UK programme. My passion for Osteopathy and Osteopathic principles ensure that I never stop learning. I continue to attend post-graduate courses in order to refine and develop my skills. As well as helping my patients, I also learn from them, which continues to inform & develop my practice." |

FUNCTIONAL MANUAL MEDICINE PRACTITIONER D.O., BSc (Hons) Ost "I am passionate about osteopathic principles of healthcare and I continue to treat & support patients of all ages with a wide range of conditions, including infants, children, adults with aches and pains, to those with more complex needs. With my background in Yoga, Tai Qi and martial arts, I also provide one-to-one coaching in exercise and movement for those keen on further developing their wellness. If you have previously seen me as an 'osteopath' please note that my clinical title is now 'Functional Manual Medicine Practitioner' and you can no longer claim for 'treatment by an osteopath' through your health insurance company. I graduated as an Osteopath from the European School of Osteopathy in 2008 and have practiced as an Osteopath ever since. In July 2022, I voluntarily withdrew my registration, in good standing, with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and no longer use the title 'Osteopath', however my style of practice is unchanged and I continue to provide high quality care to my patients." |
